Lead Pastor Mike Janes

Lead Pastor Mike Janes
Mike Janes joined was appointed to the staff at Ankeny First United Methodist beginning July 1, 2017. Mike grew up on a farm near Alden, Iowa. He and his wife, Jen, met at Cornell College, where Mike graduated with a double major in Business and Religion. While working in the Quad Cities in the warehousing industry for two years after college, Mike responded to his call to ministry at Christ United Methodist in Davenport. He and Jen moved to Muscatine for Mike to begin seminary and serve as the Youth Director at Wesley United Methodist Church. After graduation, Mike became the Pastor of Youth and Young Adults for four more years at Wesley. Both of their children, Josh and Megan, were born in Muscatine. From Muscatine, the Janeses moved to Le Mars, Iowa for Mike to pastor two churches, and in 2007, they returned to Christ United Methodist Church in Davenport where Mike served as the Lead Pastor.

Jen is a Middle School Special Education teacher. Josh is a sophomore at Drake University, studying Political Science and International Relations. Megan is a senior at Davenport Central High School. In Mike’s free time, he is an avid runner and cross-country skier, a motorcyclist, and is a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan. You can reach Mike at This email address is being protected from spambots. Pastor Angie Loomis

Pastor Angie Loomis
Angie Loomis is our Outreach Pastor. She was appointed to Ankeny First on July 1, 2014 and started as our Administrative Pastor. She is happy that the very capable office staff have been able to pick up much of the administrative functions so that as of September 1, 2016 she can focus on what she loves - mission and discipleship - challenging us to take our faith outside of the doors of the church.

Angie is an Ordained Elder in the Iowa Annual Conference. Born in Renwick, Iowa, Angie graduated from Westmar College with a degree in accounting. She then pursued a business career working for Greyhound Lines and Wells Fargo for 20 years. After hearing her call to ministry while a member at Valley UMC in West Des Moines, Angie attended Saint Paul School of Theology in Kansas City. She has served the Corydon Parish, the Manning United Methodist Church and the United Church of Manilla.

Pastor John Wagner

Pastor John Wagner
John Wagner joined the staff at Ankeny First United Methodist Church on April 1, 2009. He earned his under-graduate degree from Wartburg College. Before joining staff, John worked in the Investment/IT field and was an active member of the church, serving as a worship leader for the church.

Feeling called into the ministry, John joined our staff first as Site Director of the Christian Life Center, where he helped develop both the worship and sports ministries unique to the Christian Life Center. Continuing to respond to his call to ministry, in September, 2012 John was appointed to our congregation as a licensed local pastor. He continues his ministry focus at the Christian Life Center where he serves as the CLC Campus Pastor.

Pastor Thom Bryant

Pastor Thom Bryant
Thom Bryant joined staff at AFUMC on August 28, 2011. Before hearing his call to ministry and invitation to serve at our Faith Chapel site, he worked in management and sales in the retail field. Thom first experienced his call to ministry while he was a participant in the Iowa School for Lay Ministry. Further pursuit of that call led to a half-time appointment as Faith Chapel lay minister and United Methodist licensing school. In September, 2012, Thom was appointed full-time to our congregation as a licensed local pastor, serving half-time in ministry focused on our Faith Chapel location and half-time in our newly developing Recovery Ministry.
