Lead Pastor Scott Hibben

Lead Pastor Scott Hibben
Scott Hibben joined the staff at Ankeny First July 1, 2014. Scott became the Leadership Development Minister for Evangelism and New Ministry for the Iowa Conference of the UMC in 2007. Prior to that he served eighteen years as the planter and then senior pastor of Oakwood UMC in Pleasant Hill, growing that congregation to an average worship attendance of over 700, from which two new congregations were birthed. He has also served churches in central Iowa (Ivy Centennial), northwest Iowa (The United Church of Primghar), and north central Iowa (Morgan, Bradford & Lee Center) -- each of which grew in ministry, membership, mission and worship attendance under his leadership. Scott is a graduate of Iowa State University and Garett-Evangelical Seminary in Evanston, Ill.

In his free time, he enjoys family, walks, biking, kayaking, reading, exploring new places, and just puttering in the yard.

He and his wife, Bess, have four adult children and seven grandchildren. Bess is employed as a registered nurse at Mercy Hospital.  You can reach Scott at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Pastor Angie Loomis

Pastor Angie Loomis
Angie Loomis is our Outreach Pastor. She was appointed to Ankeny First on July 1, 2014 and started as our Administrative Pastor. She is happy that the very capable office staff have been able to pick up much of the administrative functions so that as of September 1, 2016 she can focus on what she loves - mission and discipleship - challenging us to take our faith outside of the doors of the church.

Angie is an Ordained Elder in the Iowa Annual Conference. Born in Renwick, Iowa, Angie graduated from Westmar College with a degree in accounting. She then pursued a business career working for Greyhound Lines and Wells Fargo for 20 years. After hearing her call to ministry while a member at Valley UMC in West Des Moines, Angie attended Saint Paul School of Theology in Kansas City. She has served the Corydon Parish, the Manning United Methodist Church and the United Church of Manilla.

Angie and her husband, Randy, have two adult daughters and three grandchildren. You can reach Angie at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Pastor John Wagner

Pastor John Wagner
John Wagner joined the staff at Ankeny First United Methodist Church on April 1, 2009. He earned his under-graduate degree from Wartburg College. Before joining staff, John worked in the Investment/IT field and was an active member of the church, serving as a worship leader for the church.

Feeling called into the ministry, John joined our staff first as Site Director of the Christian Life Center, where he helped develop both the worship and sports ministries unique to the Christian Life Center. Continuing to respond to his call to ministry, in September, 2012 John was appointed to our congregation as a licensed local pastor. He continues his ministry focus at the Christian Life Center where he serves as the CLC Campus Pastor.

John and his wife, Amity, have two young children, Gabe and Landry. You can reach John at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Pastor Thom Bryant

Pastor Thom Bryant
Thom Bryant joined staff at AFUMC on August 28, 2011. Before hearing his call to ministry and invitation to serve at our Faith Chapel site, he worked in management and sales in the retail field. Thom first experienced his call to ministry while he was a participant in the Iowa School for Lay Ministry. Further pursuit of that call led to a half-time appointment as Faith Chapel lay minister and United Methodist licensing school. In September, 2012, Thom was appointed full-time to our congregation as a licensed local pastor, serving half-time in ministry focused on our Faith Chapel location and half-time in our newly developing Recovery Ministry.

Thom and his wife Katie live in the church’s parsonage adjacent to Faith Chapel. You can reach Thom at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
